Position: Director of Student Life and Activities
Reports to: Head of School
Classification: Full-time, exempt
Salary: $90,000-$110,000; Commensurate with experience
Summary: The Director of Student Life and Activities assists the Head of School in providing leadership and oversight for school operations, student life, and community engagement. The Director partners with faculty, staff, students, and families to foster a positive, mission-aligned school culture and a well-rounded student experience. This position serves as the school’s lead administrator for student discipline and behavior support, maintaining high expectations for student conduct while ensuring consistent implementation of school policies and procedures. The Director must be a confident, visible, and decisive leader who is able to address disciplinary matters proactively, communicate clearly with students and families, and support faculty in maintaining a safe, respectful, and orderly learning environment. This position provides leadership for student programs, campus operations, and community engagement while serving as an accessible and highly visible presence within the school. This position reports directly to the Head of School. We anticipate a start date of July 1, 2026.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND OPERATIONS
- Assist the Head of School in the overall leadership, strategic direction, and daily operations of the school.
- Maintain congruency between the school’s mission and all programs, activities, policies, procedures, and community interactions.
- Serve as a visible, accessible, and engaged presence throughout all aspects of campus life.
- Foster a positive, safe, orderly, and mission-aligned culture for students, faculty, staff, and families.
- Partner with the Head of School to implement school policies, procedures, operational systems, and strategic initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with the Head of School regarding school operations, concerns, recommendations, and priorities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure consistency, accountability, and excellence across all areas of school programming and operations.
- Facilitate meetings and assist with school-wide initiatives, planning, and special projects as directed by the Head of School.
- Support operational needs of the school, including supervision, scheduling, staffing coordination, and event oversight as assigned.
- Serve as a liaison among the school, families, community partners, and outside organizations to strengthen school relationships and programs.
- Participate in admissions, accreditation, development, marketing, and community engagement efforts.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, supervision, evaluation, and retention of highly qualified faculty and staff.
- Participate in Board of Trustees committees, leadership meetings, and school initiatives as assigned.
STUDENT LIFE AND PROGRAMMING
- Support and oversee student discipline, behavior intervention, and problem resolution in alignment with school expectations and practices.
- Ensure consistency in discipline practices, policies, and faculty expectations across grade levels.
- Maintain student discipline records, including detentions and homework accountability systems.
- Coordinate and support cocurricular programs, extracurricular activities, athletics-related programming, experiential learning opportunities, and other student enrichment initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Athletics Director and Extended Day Coordinator to ensure cohesive student programming and supervision across athletics and auxiliary programs.
- Coordinate and oversee Chapel and assemblies, including the annual school spelling bee and other student-centered events and activities.
- Manage the Peer Mediation program; support initiatives that promote positive student relationships and character development.
- Coordinate middle school retreat programs.
- Oversee third through eighth-grade outdoor education programs, including trip planning, communication, and parent meetings.
- Manage middle school spring trips, high school visits, and eighth-grade shadow day programs.
- Develop and support programs and initiatives that promote student well-being, engagement, belonging, and character development.
COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS
- Develop, coordinate, and lead the school’s new student and new family onboarding program, including orientations, transition support, and ongoing family communication and check-ins throughout the school year.
- Promote positive morale, collaboration, and communication among faculty, staff, students, and families.
- Collaboratively write and edit the weekly faculty newsletter.
- Facilitate administration, analysis, and reporting of fourth and eighth-grade student perception surveys, using data to inform student life programming, school culture initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Serve as a resource for parents and faculty regarding school programs, policies, and student support.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or related field preferred.
- Minimum five years of teaching and/or educational leadership experience in a comparable school setting.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating student activities, athletics, student leadership programs, or school-wide programming preferred.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and philosophy of the school.
Administrative Assistant - Main Office
Position: Administrative Assistant - Main Office
Reports to: Director of Operations
Classification: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
Compensation: $33/hr
Summary: St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School (SMEDS), a co-educational Episcopal school serving 240 students in grades Preschool through 8, located in Carmichael, California, seeks an Administrative Assistant to provide general main office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks for the 2026-2027 year and beyond. We anticipate a start date of August 1, 2026.
Core Responsibilities:
- Greet school visitors; maintain sign-in/out procedures.
- Answer telephones, note messages, and direct the callers to the appropriate extension.
- Receive, sort, and forward incoming mail. Maintain and route publications.
- Coordinate the pickup and delivery of express mail services (FedEx, UPS, etc.).
- Assist in the ordering, receiving, and distribution of school supplies and textbooks.
- Assist in the ordering of catering for school functions.
- Assist with other related clerical duties such as copying, scanning, filing, and collating.
- Generate certificates, programs, flyers, invitations, and other school communications.
- Assist with student and field trip documentation.
- Generate and maintain multiple schedules and calendars using Google Calendar.
- Troubleshoot office administration problems and assist with special projects as assigned.
- In partnership with the school nurse, administer routine first aid; dispense medication according to physician instructions and school policy; notify parents of ill or injured students as needed. (First Aid/CPR/AED training is required and provided by the school.)

- Ability to navigate and maintain school databases (training provided).
- Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and sound reasoning skills.

Hours of Work: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm when school is in session. Summer hours of work are generally Tuesday through Thursday, 9:00-1:00. (Determined each summer)

St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School in Carmichael, CA, seeks a responsible, enthusiastic, and creative individual to work as an early childhood/extended care aide. Hours are Monday through Friday, 12:00 – 5:30 pm.
St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School, an accredited independent school (PG-8th Grade), is located in Carmichael, CA. Our educational journey begins in our nurturing Early Childhood Program. Our program is designed to provide a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where our youngest learners can explore, play, and develop essential skills through guided activities and an age-appropriate curriculum.
Essential Duties:
- Uphold the school’s mission and values with integrity.
- Assist lead teachers in planning and implementing daily lesson plans and activities that promote the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.
- Support children in their daily routines, including mealtime, naptime, and bathroom breaks.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Actively observe children and monitor their progress, reporting any concerns to the lead teacher or Director of Early Childhood Education.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians.

Education/Experience:
Experience with young children in a programmed setting.
