Library/Technology

St. Michael's Library

The library serves as a vibrant center for learning, inquiry, creativity, and community for students in Preschool through 8th grade. Open and accessible throughout the school day, the library supports both independent exploration and curriculum-based learning through collaboration between classroom teachers and the librarian.

Students visit the library regularly to discover books for leisure and independent reading while also engaging with resources that deepen and extend classroom learning. Beginning in the early years, children develop a love of language and literature through weekly storytimes designed to foster early literacy and curiosity.

As students grow, they build essential research and information literacy skills through guided lessons, collaborative projects, and inquiry-based learning experiences. Teachers and the librarian partner to support classroom units, conduct research projects, and create meaningful opportunities for students to think critically, ask questions, and share their learning with others.

Throughout their library experiences, students learn to:

  • Explore award-winning and diverse literature
  • Develop a lifelong love of reading and literature
  • Think critically, inquire, and build knowledge
  • Use print and digital resources responsibly and effectively
  • Conduct research and draw informed conclusions
  • Locate and evaluate information and library resources
  • Participate ethically and productively as members of a learning community

The library program empowers students to become confident readers, thoughtful researchers, and engaged learners who are prepared to navigate and contribute to an ever-changing world.
